Precise thermal measurements in all their branches are among the key applications in the field of metrology, significantly impacting our daily lives. These measurements are widely conducted in laboratories, factories, military, health, and civil sectors at various levels. To meet these diverse needs, the management has focused on establishing national standards for temperature measurement and providing calibration services for service and production sectors in Saudi Arabia. The Thermal Measurements Management consists of three main laboratories: Thermal Conductivity Laboratory, Humidity Laboratory, and Thermal Radiation Laboratory.
The Thermal Conductivity Laboratory is an essential part of the Thermal Measurements Management at the National Center for Measurement and Calibration, where it calibrates all heat scales using the dynamic temperature unit (Kelvin). Additionally, the laboratory is responsible for achieving the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) and maintaining its accuracy through the use of fixed cells and Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers (SPRT). Subsequently, these calibrations are transferred to all national entities that measure temperatures in industries and services. The laboratory provides calibration services for all temperature measurement devices and thermal environments using high-precision reference instruments and possesses high-level measurement capabilities as follows:
