Electrical Products Laboratories

​​​​​ The tests in this laboratory conform to Standard Specifications and the test methods are relating to electrical products, cables and its accessories, and energy efficiency for lighting, heaters, air conditions, washing machines, refrigerators, and freezers.

Laboratory Tasks:

  • Examining and testing samples according to Standard Specifications.
  • Issuing technical reports for examining and testing results.
  • Provide opinions and technical advice in the electrical field.
  • Cooperate with the relevant departments to conduct an initial and periodic inspection on factories obtaining quality-mark.
  • Participating in the preparation of regulations and standards with the General Department of Standards.​ 

The laboratory consists of three units divided according to the nature of tests. The samples are distributed among these units according to the type of test determined in the product's standard as follows: ​

 The unit examines and tests electrical household appliances products and the like. It also exams and tests electrical cables and extensions (plugs, sockets, adapters, connectors, and others).

The laboratory also contains of many instruments that help to ensure that products conform to specification standards:

  • Mechanical shock instrument.
  • High voltage test device - ball pressure test apparatus.
  • Power, voltage and electrical power meter.
  • Specific resistance meter of cables and wires.
  • Cable flexibility instrument.
  • Stability testing instrument.
  •  Lamp life meter.
  • Plugs and sockets life meter.
  • Electric switches life meter.
  •  Electric iron drop test instrument.
  • Stirring plugs test instrument.
  • Humidity and heat room.
  • Oven to 150  ْC.
  • Safety tests instrument.
  • Insulation resistance meter.
  • Cardon bending instrument.
  •  Wires sectional area measuring instrument.
  • Abnormal heat and fire resistance test instrument.
  • Sockets mechanical shock instrument.
  • Flame test instrument.
  • Torque for threaded screws and connectors measuring instrument.
  • Energy efficiency for air conditioners measuring instruments.
  • Energy efficiency for washing machines and dryers measuring instruments.
  • Energy efficiency for refrigerators and freezers measuring instruments.
  • Energy efficiency for lighting measuring instruments.
  • Energy efficiency for heaters measuring instruments.


The unit examines and tests the energy efficiency of small capacity air conditioners of all types. Also, it examines and tests energy efficiency for washing machines and home clothes dryers, as well as examines and tests the energy efficiency of the home cooling appliances.
