The Department of Chemical Laboratories has been established within SASO’s laboratory system, which provides testing services to ensure that the goods conform to Saudi standards. The Department of Chemical Laboratories has several laboratories:
The Chemical Element Determination Laboratory of the Department of Chemical Laboratories provides outstanding services in the field of chemical analysis for various types of samples, with the latest advanced technology from major companies in the world, as well as an experienced working group with extensive experience in analysis and interpretation of readings and results. The laboratory has obtained ISO IEC 17025:2017 certificate for laboratories in water quality and their work is continuing to expand the field of accreditation to other products.
The Chemical Element Determination Laboratory has all equipment and technology that enable it to perform analyses at a very low concentration of up parts per trillion (ppt) for some elements with high reliability such as:
- Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP).
- Ion Chromatography (IC).
- Ion chromatography (IC) coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (IC-ICP-MS).
- Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS).
- Mercury Analyzer.
- pH Meter.
- Conductivity Meter.
Analyzing water samples that include: Anions and Cations, heavy and rare elements, this is in addition to the chemical and physical properties of water and includes acidity, electrolytic conductivity and total dissolved salts in water.
Samples of children's toys are also analyzed to detect toxins and heavy metals, as well as school tools such as pencils and other samples.
The Chemical Compounds Determination Laboratory is one of the basic pillars of separation, the identification of compounds that cannot be separated by routine methods and the estimation of their concentration in various products, where the components of the sample are separated for identification and Determination, where the separation is by the distribution of the sample between two different phases.
The laboratory new and accurate equipment to determine whether the product is suitable for use in terms of conformity with standards and relies on newly produced testing methods and standards and on human competencies that have scientific qualifications and are highly trained.
The laboratory has all equipment and technology that enable it to perform analyses at a very low concentration of up parts per trillion (ppt) for some elements with high reliability such as:
- The gas chromatograph - mass spectrometer (GC/MS).
- high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
- Liquid Chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS).
- Gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID).
Tests in this laboratory include industrial detergents, determination of organic compounds, compounds and semi-volatile compounds in children's toys, fabric, shoes, water, school tools, plastic products and many products, and the extent to which they comply to the standard. The laboratory will soon seek the certification of laboratories (ISO IEC 17025:2017) for its tests.
The Plastic Products Laboratory in the laboratory department of Saudi Standards applies various applications and practical steps including a number of plastic products, in addition to developing the standards and developing methods of testing and approving them.
The laboratory provides an analysis service on polymer and plastic materials, including physical, chemical and mechanical tests as well as research support, product quality control and commodity conformity.
The laboratory operates according to the approved procedures according to (ISO IES 17025:2017) and aims to approve all tests for plastic products.
The laboratory provides analysis service in the following products:
