Impact of the Application of Standards on Social and Economic Development

Mr. John Walter is the President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) during the period 2018 to 2019, has assisted to enhance the activities of some regional organizations related to standardization such as:

The Pan American Standards Commission, COPANT, is a civil non-profit association. It has complete operational autonomy and unlimited duration. It comprises the National Standards Bodies (NSB) of the Americas. COPANT is the reference for technical standardization and conformity assessment for the countries of the Americas for its members and international peers, and promotes the development of its members.

The Pacific Area Standards Congress PASC.

Mr. Walter took over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), in addition to several other positions such as:

• Vice President of Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
• Founding President and CEO of the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).
• Assistant Deputy Minister in the Technical Standards Division of the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, Ontario.
