The Kingdom Hosts Delegations from 34 Countries to Attend SMIIC Meetings



      In November, the Kingdom will host delegations from more than 34 countries of the Islamic world participating in the 17th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC), and the 13th meeting of SMIIC's General Assembly. The meetings will be held in Makkah during the period from Safar 26th-27th, 1440 H, corresponding to November 4th-5th, 2018.

      These meetings come after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), won chairing SMIIC's Board of Directors for the period of 2018-2020 in the 12th meeting of the General Assembly held in the last quarter of 2017. During the same meeting, the Kingdom was elected for the membership of the Board of Directors, the membership of the Standardization Council for the period of 2018-2020, and membership of the Accreditation Council for the period of 2018-2020.

      The meetings will be attended by a number of the Kingdom's guests; representatives of the member countries of SMIIC, observers, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), relevant bodies and committees of OIC, in addition to a number of regional organizations.  

      ​SASO affirmed its readiness to have these meetings in a manner that is appropriate to the Kingdom's status and influence regionally and internationally. It pointed out that it is doing its utmost to promote cooperation and joint Islamic work based on the value and place of the Kingdom in the Islamic world; enhance the role of standardization activities in economic and industrial growth; and encourage intra- trade among the member countries of SMIIC.
