Workshop on "Activating the Role of SASO and its Partners in International Technical Committees for Standards" ​in Eastern Province


      The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) organized a workshop under the title "Activating the Role of SASO and its Partners in International Technical Committees for Standards" in Dammam, on Tuesday, Muharram 8th, 1440H (September 18th, 2018). This comes in the framework of its efforts to promote and consolidate the concept of joint work in addition to the regional and international role of the Kingdom in the field of standard specifications.

      In a speech delivered on behalf of HE the Governor of SASO, Mr. Tamis Al-Hammadi, Director General of SASO's Branch, said that SASO, by participating in this workshop, aims at keeping pace with global developments and activating its role in international technical committees for standards. This comes in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 aiming at enhancing the Kingdom's position and its pioneering role, and to consolidate SASO's vision, i.e. to achieve regional leadership and scientific reference in the areas of specifications and standardization.

      Many topics were presented in this workshop. Mr. Abdul-Majid Al-Hassoun, Head of SASO's Technical Committees Department, gave a brief on the technical teams formed at SASO and its participation in international committees. Moreover, Eng. Zuhair Al-Qahtani and Eng. Haitham Al-Barrak, representatives of Aramco, reviewed Aramco's representative role in international standards committees. In addition, Mr. Sari Kamachi, representative of the International Cooperation Department, at SASO, referred to the mechanism of work in the international committees and the most important practices in the work of the committees. Furthermore, Eng. Ali Al-Hawas and Eng. Tarek Al-Zayed, representatives of the SFDA, gave a presentation on the role of SASO in international projects for the standards of medical devices. The final paper by Dr. Ahmed Babader, representative of the General Administration for Standards, at SASO, also reviewed the importance of participation in international committees and the most important points related to it. 

      ​At the end of the workshop, a session was held to discuss the most important obstacles and challenges faced by technical teams and the importance of the active role of members in interacting with standard drafts; presenting views and observations; and voting in international committees to strengthen the membership of the Kingdom and improve the level of membership.
