Experts of Saudi energy efficiency program announced that the updated standard for energy efficiency of rotating electrical machines would come into force on August 16th, 2018. No non-conforming products will be allowed to enter by custom ports as well as manufactured locally, from this date. This came during a workshop organized by SASO in collaboration with Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC), in the presence of a number of specialists and interested parties.

SASO has updated the standard for energy efficiency of rotating electrical machines (IEC) SASO 2893, to improve the efficiency of energy consumption in rotating electrical machines, since they are some of the most energy consuming machines.

Furthermore, experts said that the aim of the standard update is to be more in line with the local market requirements and to expand its implementation scope to include 8-pole motors, in addition to increasing the scope of the ambient temperature in motors to be 60 °C instead of 40 °C. In addition, SASO and SEEC have updated the registration system to comply with the requirements of the updated standard.

The process of updating the standard has started by working with a team of experts and specialists from relevant government bodies and private companies with experience in this field. A workshop was organized to exchange views on the importance of updating the standard and the most important technical requirements in this field. Therefore, modifications were made to the standard and approved by SASO.
