During The Board of Directors Meeting, Chaired by The Minister of Commerce
SASO: Accreditation and Update of 301 Saudi and Gulf Standards and Technical Regulations
SASO's board of directors has approved new and updated standards and technical regulations and in a variety of areas focused on the strategic topics of national initiatives adopted by the Kingdom's development plans. The board also has reviewed the rates of achievement and performance report of operational plan for 2015, in addition to the review of the operational plan draft of SAO, next year God willing.
His Excellency the Governor of SASO, Dr. Saad bin Othman Al Kasabi, has explained that the hundred and fifty- fourth meeting of SASO's board of directors - which was held recently under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabiah at SASO's headquarter in Riyadh, has witnessed the accreditation of (68) Saudi standards and technical regulations .In addition, it has witnessed accreditation of (104) Gulf standards as (42) new standards as well as update of (129) standards. The Governor has pointing out that those standards are distributed among electrical and mechanical products, measurements, construction products, building materials, chemical products, and textiles and the environment, etc.
Dr. Al kasabi has pointed that the board has reviewed the rates of achievement in the strategic plan, and approved the final account and the annual report of SASO. He has taken some decisions related to work mechanisms and development. He has explained that the main topics of standards and technical regulations that have been approved; regulations of energy efficiency, and update the standards of gas cylinders system.
Noting that SASO continued the efforts this year to complete the revision draft of standards and the issuance of electronic guide to Saudi standards. This year witnessed the adoption of (216) new Saudi standards in various sectors for a total of what has been adopted since the establishment of SASO (28 924) Saudi standards. Furthermore, (1,707) Saudi standards have been updated and modified, in addition to (195) drafts of Saudi standards in various stages of study and preparation for the adoption as a Saudi standard.
On his part, the Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabiah thanked all officials and employees of SASO for what he saw of the efforts brought a qualitative and high professional leap in SASO's job in related work fields. He stressed the need to move forward in the development of work and upgrading products and services quality in the Saudi market through the adoption and update for the required standards.
