The importance of the participation and this periodical presence of the Kingdom and standardization bodies in such international events, is that it has a distinct effect that raises the quality and efficiency of the Saudi standards and highlights the Kingdom's efforts in this regard. In addition, this meeting emphasized, in its recommendations, on the need to activate legal metrology practices and to work on keeping up with the  developments and successive changes in various countries of the world. Legal standards are considered a branch of metrology, which deals with the technical and legal binding requirements that ensure public protection in terms of safety and appropriate measurement accuracy. Furthermore, these standards provide professionals and the community with multiple regulations and ways  to control the accuracy of measurement tools , in order to raise the consumer's confidence in the measurement and weight of the product he receives. This will be reflected in creating a high-trust credible economic environment and supporting the competitive position of the Kingdom.

It is noteworthy that OIML was established in 1955, headquartered in Paris, France. It is an international organization that works to document and present everything related to legal standards. KSA has been a  member of this Organization since 1990. SASO studies draft recommendations and votes for them. Also, these recommendations are used as a main reference when preparing projects of Saudi standard specifications.
