Thermal measurements

​​      Accurate thermal measurements in all its branches are considered one of the important metrological applications involved in our daily life on a large scale, as they are necessary in laboratories, factories, military, health and civil sectors at all levels. In response to these broad needs, the administration took care of establishing national standards for measuring temperatures and covering the calibration work for the service and productive sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Thermal Measurements Department consists of three laboratories: Thermal Conductivity Laboratory, Moisture Laboratory, and Thermal Radiation Laboratory.

      It is one of the laboratories of the Thermal Measurements Department at the National Center for Measurement and Calibration and is responsible for calibrating all thermometers with reference to the dynamic temperature unit (Kelvin). The laboratory is responsible for achieving the International Temperature Scale (ITS-90) and maintaining its accuracy using fixed cells and standard platinum resistance thermometers (SPRT) and broadcast it to all national bodies that measure temperatures in industries and services. The laboratory provides calibration services for all thermal devices and media using high-precision reference devices related to that unit, including: fixed point cells, standard platinum resistance thermometers, thermocouples, and thermal media (ovens, incubators and refrigerators) and the laboratory has measurement capabilities as follows:

      The laboratory concerned of creating and preserving the humidity measurement standard, as it is one of the most important climate influences in our daily life and is defined as a physical quantity that describes the amount of water vapor in the air and varies according to temperature and air pressure. There are a number of methods for measuring humidity using various devices that can be calibrated by the humidity laboratory and assigned to international units. The laboratory provides calibration services for high-precision measuring devices related to humidity measurements such as "dew point" and "temperature and relative humidity" in addition to air thermometers. Relative Humidity Sensors

      ​This laboratory creates and maintains national measurement standards for thermodynamic heat amount, measured in Kelvin based on the phenomenon of thermal conductivity by radiation. Thermal radiation is one of the forms of energy emission and transfer, which means the transfer of heat from one point to another, through electromagnetic waves without the need for a material medium to travel through. The laboratory provides calibration services for high-precision measurement devices related to the temperature measurement unit, such as: thermal radiation thermometers, black body and thermal radiation cameras, and the laboratory has the following measurement capabilities:
