  Technical Proficiency Testing Unit

Technical Proficiency Tests: Technical proficiency tests serve as an external method to evaluate the laboratory's proficiency and verify the accuracy of results and measurements in performing a specific test method. Laboratory participation in these tests constitutes an objective and independent measure of its routine performance. Since participation in technical proficiency tests is one of the essential requirements in the International Standard (ISO 17025), it ensures that the laboratory adheres to the highest standards of quality and accuracy in its services.

Benefits of Participating in Technical Proficiency Tests:

  • Personal Performance Evaluation: Participation in technical proficiency tests allows individuals to evaluate their performance by comparing it with reference values and the performance of other laboratories participating in the same test.
  • Test Method Improvement: Participation in these tests provides an opportunity to compare and identify the test methods used, thus aiding in improving efficiency and result accuracy.
  • Evidence of Competence: Successful participation in technical proficiency tests serves as strong evidence of competence and quality in laboratory services, increasing confidence among beneficiaries and accrediting bodies.
  • Measurement Accuracy Verification: Technical proficiency tests assist in the overall evaluation and verification of uncertainty calculations within the laboratory, contributing to ensuring the accuracy of measurements and results.
  • Problem Identification and Solution Provision: Participation in these tests enables the identification of potential problems and the provision of appropriate solutions to enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Reference Material Value Determination: Technical proficiency tests provide an opportunity to determine the values for reference materials and assess their suitability for use in specific testing or measurement procedures.

Related International Standards:

ISO/IEC 17043 and ISO 13528

The International Organization for Standardization has issued the International Standard (ISO/IEC 17043) to define the general requirements for the proficiency of entities providing proficiency testing. Meanwhile, the International Standard (ISO 13528) provides the necessary statistical basis for implementing (ISO/IEC 17043). ISO 13528 focuses on the use of statistical analysis in interpreting results, identifying reasons for differences, and addressing them, as well as estimating the homogeneity and stability of the samples used in technical proficiency testing programs.
