Chemical Measurements

​Metrology in chemistry is gaining an increasing international importance in the fields of food safety, environmental quality, climate change and public health, and chemical measurements represent more than 60% of the volume of daily measurements taken in the world, and approved reference materials (CRMs) are the backbone of the validity of measurements and through which measurement results are based on the units of the International System (SI). The Department of Chemical Measurements is concerned with prepare and characterizing the reference materials organic, gaseous and electrical in accordance with the relevant international standards and supply them to the local and Gulf markets.​

The Gas Metrics Laboratory is concerned with the production of reference materials from the gases of (CO), (CO2) and natural gas in accordance with the relevant international ISO standards. The results of measuring their concentrations are assigned to the units of the International System (SI). They are provided to the market in the form of cylinders filled with a mixture of gas with nitrogen at different concentrations and attached to a certificate. These reference materials are used in the calibration of environmental pollutants monitoring devices with harmful gases, vehicle exhaust measuring devices, and the calibration of gas chromatography devices used in the analysis of (CO), (CO2) and natural gases, and the laboratory also analyzes cylinders of (CO), (CO2) and natural gas, and determines their concentrations. The organic measurements laboratory works in a wide range of reference materials to serve the fields of food safety and environment protection. It is concerned with preparing reference materials such as pesticides, preservatives, antibiotics, edible oils and aromatic hydrocarbons polluting the environment and uses modern measurement methods to certify reference materials in accordance with international protocols to achieve the requirements of ISO standard ( ISO 17034), and it produces these reference materials accompanied by certification for the local and Gulf market.

CRM Production

The laboratory is concerned with preparing primary reference buffer solutions and measuring their pH in an international primary reference method. In addition to certifying them with a certificate and providing them to water-analysis laboratories in drinking-water companies, food and beverage companies, and medicines to ensure the validity of water. In factories, it is for measuring the acidity and alkalinity of water entering and leaving industrial processes. The laboratory of reference measurement system for measuring the pH of buffer solutions and the primary measurement system for measuring the concentration of acids and salts in coulometer and the laboratory has the following measurement capabilities:
