SASO Organizes Third Standards Forum on Industry in Jeddah

      The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has organized the third Standards Forum on Industry, in conjunction with the celebration of this year's World Standards Day under the theme "International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution". The Forum was held at SASO's branch in Jeddah, with the participation of a group of specialists and interested individuals.   

      In a speech delivered on the behalf of Dr. Saad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, Governor of SASO, Mr. Mutlaq Al-Tayyari, Director General of SASO's Branch in Makkah Region, said that the celebration of standardization bodies on World Standards Day this year under the theme "International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution" stresses the importance of standards in coping with recent industrial developments. Standards contribute to the success of industrial transformation and play a crucial role in the success of the Fourth Industrial Revolution as a central means to ensure the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of environmental compatibility of products and services.   

      He pointed out that the World Standards Day represents one of the important international events that allow national standardization bodies to highlight the pivotal national role played by standardization activities and the quality infrastructure system in promoting economic and industrial growth. "This celebration is also an opportunity to highlight the importance and role of standards in improving the performance and quality of products, commodities and services and keeping abreast of modern industrial developments. Standards are also a key supporter of national industry and a basic enabler that ensures the safety of imports," he added.

      Dr. Al-Kasabi noted that SASO is aware of the extent of transformation and development witnessed by the industrial world and the technological and technical development in production as well as the aspirations of the Kingdom's wise leadership in its Vision 2030. He stressed that SASO is actively seeking to meet these challenges to be an important building block in the development process of our Kingdom.

      The Forum witnessed a number of activities and working papers. The first was initiated by Eng. Mishary bin Abdulrahman Al-Salah, Deputy Director of Service Standards Department at SASO, in which he highlighted standards and their role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Dr. Awad bin Salem Al Harbi, Director of Quality Department at Saudi Industrial Services Company (SISCO), talked about international standards of institutional innovation and their role in the investment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Moreover, Eng. Wael bin Abdul Rahman Al-Dhayab, Director of Saudi Vocational Program at SASO, presented a definition of the Saudi Vocational Program.

      ​The Forum reviewed experiences of some national companies and bodies in the application of standards. Eng. Khaled bin Mesfer Al-Bassami, Regional Director for Safety, Health, Security and Environment at IKEA, reviewed the impact of the application of standards and specifications and their effect on sustainability. In addition, Eng. Bandar bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani, Executive Director of Modon Albina Ready-mix Concrete Factory, presented a working paper on ready-mix concrete. Furthermore, Dr. Jaber bin Mohammad Al- Dandashi, Director General of Jeddah Cable Company, talked about the role of modern technologies in the manufacture of high voltage cables. The third Forum of Standards was concluded by an open panel discussion on the role of standards under the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
