SASO's annual report for 2017 revealed the success of its reference labs in achieving outstanding results in technical proficiency testing programs with a number of international bodies.
SASO explained that the technical proficiency testing programs are programs designed to ensure the quality of test results, where laboratories can evaluate their performance when their data and results are compared to reference samples with other laboratories that participate worldwide in the same program. Noting that these programs are an essential element in proving the efficiency of laboratories to perform certain tests, as stipulated in the International Standard (ISO / IEC 17025) of laboratories accreditation.
SASO announced the success of the laboratory of chemical elements determination in achieving outstanding results in the comparison tests with UK National Measurement Institute (LGC Standard) for reference chemical elements using three different techniques. The results showed that the values obtained in SASO's laboratories are excellent compared to global laboratories, and fall within the acceptable range of comparative results.
The Petroleum Products Laboratory participated in inter-comparison proficiency testing PT with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). The participation was in three different petroleum products: (Hydraulic oil, diesel fuel, and grease). The laboratory has achieved results comparable to the reference values of global laboratories in tests, which is a practical step in demonstrating the laboratory's proficiency to perform these tests and quality assurance processes in the laboratory.
Furthermore, textiles lab achieved excellent results and the reference values in the technical proficiency tests are close to the German reference office for proficiency testing and reference materials with basic tests on textile products. The plastic laboratory conducted technical proficiency tests in the field of plastic testing with the German company (Uve Technologies) and achieved good results as well.
The steel and aluminum laboratory participated in the technical proficiency tests for tensile testing with EXOVA and ASTM, within the quality assurance programs for laboratories. Proficiency tests showed that the results are excellent and close to reference values.
SASO's laboratories seek to achieve reference and leadership at the national and regional level in the field of examination and analysis of products and goods, whether manufactured locally or imported, as the laboratories are the most important pillars of decision-making in technical disagreements and disputes.
In addition, SASO's laboratories participate in the preparation of standards through participation in technical committees, conducting studies and researches, and providing technical consultations. The General Administration of Laboratories receives samples from various types of electrical, electronic, mechanical, metal, chemical, petroleum, and textile products, as well as building materials, plastic products, and children's toys. The purpose of these tests is to test and analyze these samples to ensure that they comply with standards and technical regulations.
However, SASO, as part of its strategies, seeks to strengthen the leading role of its reference laboratories by providing state-of-the-art devices and equipment, and training its technical staff with the latest methods and techniques in their fields, to enhance their technical capabilities to integrate with the private sector laboratories, in addition to form an effective national testing system for imported and locally manufactured goods.
