Signing Memorandum of Cooperation Between SASO and GCS
Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and the General Commission for Survey (GCS) signed on Tuesday, Shawwal 19th, 1439H, corresponding to July 3rd, 2018, a joint technical Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), stressing the efforts of both sides to work to strengthen cooperation among government bodies to achieve common goals. The MoC was signed by HE Dr. Saad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, Governor of SASO and HE Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim Al-Saab, President of GCS.
This MoC aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the common fields and to achieve the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Thus, this increases competitive capabilities and makes the best use of them. Also, it contributes to the activation of joint programs in areas and services related to standardization and quality activities. Moreover, it intends to develop and update programs of cooperation and development according to standard specifications; to improve the quality of projects and services provided by GCS in particular, and to achieve the integration and coordination between both parties in general.
The MoC also referred to activating joint work in activities related to standardization and quality activities in order to promote the development mission of GCS and exchange knowledge, studies, scientific researches, information and related publications within the framework of joint specialization. In addition, it referred to the joint technical cooperation in preparing, reviewing, and developing technical regulations, standard specifications and related programs to improve procedures and raise the quality of projects and services.
It is worth noting that signing this MoC was preceded by mutual visits and discussions between SASO and GCS. The most recent was the visit of the Governor of SASO and Mr. John Walter, President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The visit dealt with aspects of joint cooperation between the two sides, and stressed the fundamental role of ISO and international standards in supporting the efforts of national bodies in areas related to the work of GCS. The importance and standardization of standards were discussed at the national level. Also, there was an agreement to enhance cooperation and coordination on the importance of using the criteria for geospatial information and raise awareness in this regard in order to serve the interests of the country, achieve desired goals and unify efforts of all government bodies.
