Saudi-Algerian Cooperation in Standards and Quality to Develop Intra-Trade and Ensure Consumer Safety
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and the Algerian Institute for Standardization (AIOS-IANOR) signed a "technical cooperation program" in the various fields of standardization. This came on the sidelines of the 13th session of the Saudi-Algerian Joint Committee, held in Riyadh, during the period from the 1st -2nd of Sha'ban, 1439H, corresponding to the 17th -18th of April, 2018. The two sides were headed by His Excellency the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, and the Minister of Industry and Mines of Algeria, Mr. Youcef Yousfi.
The program was signed by Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman al-Kasabi, the governor of SASO, on the Saudi side, and by Mr. Jamal Halas, Director General of IANOR on the Algerian side.
The program aims at developing trade, assuring quality of imported commodities, eliminating technical barriers to trade between the two countries and ensuring consumer safety. Furthermore, it aspires to exchange experiences, national standards, studies and researches related to different standardization fields and activities.
The Saudi-Algerian Joint Committee concluded its 13th session in Riyadh after the two sides discussed various topics in different sectors. Moreover, the two sides considered ways to enhance the volume of trade exchange, opportunities and investment fields between the two countries. Also, both sides talked about following up on the implementation of the recommendations of previous meetings of the Joint Committee, in accordance with the high directives of leaders of the two brotherly countries, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
It is worth mentioning that the meetings of this committee are held annually, alternately, in both countries and with the participation of representatives of a number of government bodies and businessmen.
