SASO introduces importers and traders to the requirements of the technical regulation for electrical elevators

         Within the framework of SASO's keenness on integration with the private sector, SASO has organized five workshops on the technical regulation of electrical elevators used in buildings and facilities, in cooperation with Riyadh Chamber, Jeddah Chamber, Asharqia Chamber, Jazan Chamber and Tabuk Chamber, in preparation for the mandatory application of the Regulation on seven products on 09 Rajab, 1439AH, corresponding to 26 March, 2018.

      SASO explained that after the mandatory application of this regulation, the importation and circulation of any non-conforming products or violation to one of its clauses will not be allowed. The regulation aims at determining the basic requirements for elevators included in this regulation, determining conformity assessment procedures for parts and components of elevators that suppliers must comply with before products are put in the market. In addition to installation and operation requirements, inspection and maintenance procedures, and determining the responsibilities of the specialized bodies, in order to ensure the conformity of the product, and maintain the health and safety of the consumer.

          SASO noted that this regulation is applied to elevators designed for general use in buildings and installations, and for safety components for electrical elevators such as safety equipment, interlocks, speed regulator, and safety circuits containing electronic components. The regulation also includes means of protection against excess speed of the vehicle during boarding, as well as means of protection against the unintended movement of the vehicle.

      ​  SASO confirmed that cable elevators (telefreak), steep grade railways for public and private transport, elevators designed for military or security purposes, elevators for mines, lifting machines designed to lift individuals or goods or both in building and construction sites, elevators with rated speeds equal to or less than 0.15 m / s, and stairs and electric rails, in addition to step and belt type escalators are exclude from the application of this regulation.
