As part of its continuous efforts to integrate with all government and private sectors, the National Committee for the Saudi Building Code hosted more than 60 officers specialized in safety from the General Directorate of Civil Defense to introduce the requirements of the code and the efforts of the National Committee in this field, in preparation for the compulsory application next May. The meeting was held at the headquarters of SASO in Riyadh.

       The Committee pointed that the importance of building codes in Saudi Arabia is at an important stage in our present history, as a result of the urgent need to standardize standards and practices that are compatible with the nature of the Kingdom and our engineering environment. The committee also pointed that this code is relied on by government bodies involved in its work, to enhance the role of the construction and building sector in supporting the economy and sustainable development in our dear country, in addition to improve quality and safety levels in the various sectors targeted by this work.

       The National Committee for the Saudi Building Code indicated that it is working diligently in preparation for the implementation stage through integrated topics to approve the regulations through preparing executive regulations for the code system and start the preparation of the classification list of violations. In addition to the focus on training and awareness through coordination with stakeholders from public and private sectors to provide training and awareness in the field of the code. Moreover, the committee works on studying the structure of the code through several workshops to follow up the updating and development of the code requirements. It also works on addressing the gaps in the current national system building code to reach an integrated institutional framework that ensures effective implementation of the code and updates it through an integrated governing and strategic topic.

       ​It is worth pointing that there are (11) subcommittees participating in the preparation, review and development of the code from more than 14 governmental bodies, including Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Housing, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Energy, Industry And Minerals , Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Saudi Council of Engineers, Saudi Geological Survey and Saudi Aramco, in addition to four specialists from Saudi universities.
