Riyadh Hosts an Arab Gathering for Measurement and Calibration Experts
During the period from 29 October to 2 November 2017, SASO will host the activities of the Arab Metrology Week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of the efforts of SASO and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), in support of joint Arab work and integration in the field of measurement and calibration.
SASO initiated the activities of the Arab Metrology Week with a training program on the requirements of the international standards "ISO / IEC 17025" and "ISO Guide 34", which addressed the technical and administrative requirements covered by the international standard, presented by Prof. Adel Bassiouni Shehata and Prof. Mamdouh Mostafa Halawa.
The activities of the Arab Metrology Week resumed on Tuesday, 31 October, with the meeting of the General Assembly of the Arab Program for Legal Metrology, which witnessed the implementation follow-up of the recommendations of the fourth meeting of the General Assembly, and the work plan of the Arab Program for Legal Metrology in addition to other related topics.
Eng. Saud bin Rashid Al-Askar, Deputy Governor at SASO, confirmed in a speech he presented on the importance of such cooperation and joint action in raising the level of performance and efficiency in the field of Arab metrology to meet the challenges facing standardization bodies in the Arab world , especially in view of the rapid changes and challenges facing our country, keeping in mind the ambitions relying on standardization bodies aiming at effectively supporting and promoting sustainable development and the economic and industrial renaissance in our country.
Al-Askar expressed his hope that the efforts will be combined and that the experts of measurement and calibration will all work within the same goal of upgrading the level of metrology in the Arab world, in order to reach outputs that meet our aspirations and contribute to enhancing joint work among Arab standardization bodies and measurement centers. In addition, he noted the outstanding efforts exerted by AIDMO to activate joint Arab action in various fields related to standardization activities.
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Al-Duweiser, representative of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization, expressed his deepest thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques- God preserve him- for the continuous support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Organization, noting the vital role played by measurement and calibration in the promotion and development of quality infrastructure and the advancement of science and technology.
The activities of the Arab Metrology Week will resume on Wednesday with the meeting of the General Assembly of the Arab Program for Scientific and Industrial Metrology, which will discuss a number of issues related to scientific and industrial metrology and Arab's efforts in this regard.
SASO will conclude the activities of the Arab Metrology Week with the meeting of the Advisory Committee for Metrology to review the achievements of AIDMO in relation to metrology.
