At its (161th ) meeting, SASO's Board of Directors adopted four new mandatory technical regulations: technical regulation for building materials (part 3 - hydraulic links) and technical regulation for building materials (part 4: bricks, tiles, ceramics, sanitary ware and related products), in addition to the technical regulation for the electrical elevators used in buildings and installations and technical regulation for trucks, trailers and half- trailers under-run protective devices. That came as part of SASO's efforts in implementing products' safety program, which is one of the initiatives of the National Transition Program 2020.

     The meeting of SASO's Board of  Directors witnessed the adoption of (90) Saudi standards in various sectors (chemical - textile and weaving - engineering sector - construction sector - services standards sector). A total of (212) GCC standards and technical regulations have been adopted.

     It is noted that all industrial products falls under products' safety program, and all concerned bodies are involved. SASO, in cooperation with those bodies, works on the issuance and development of rules that make technical regulations are obligatory, including the launch of products' safety system and the system of standards and quality. The program also includes the launch of a new methodology for the issuance of technical regulations to clarify all the requirements and implementation method. In addition, SASO launched a system of conformity assessment bodies, and worked to provide mechanisms to measure the impact of these regulations on the market through laying conformity indicators in the market.

     Furthermore, SASO expects that products' safety program will increase the levels of consumers' confidence and satisfaction, and help to achieve higher levels of quality and production efficiency to enhance the competitive position of the national economy.
