Dr. Al-Kasabi: Measurement Activities Are One of the Most Important Technical Pillars for Enhancing Role of Industry and Supporting Sustainable Development

Governor of SASO, Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, assured that measurement activities are one of the most important components of the national quality system and an important supporter for enhancing the quality of different industries and sustaining development. This came within a speech he presented on the occasion of celebrating World Metrology Day 2017, under the theme "Measurements for Transport".

Governor of SASO said, "SASO's interest in measurement issues and its keen interest in activating its technical activities in the various fields of measurement stem from full confidence and belief in the advantages of measurement in laying the foundations and precise standards upon which many industries and economic activities depend." Additionally, he clarified that the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) had chosen the theme "Measurements for Transport" for the World Metrology Day this year, and that this was an opportunity to highlight the efforts of national standardization organizations in this vital sector. He also pointed out that highlighting the efforts of specialists and those interested in the field of standardization on this day comes at a time when transport technologies are undergoing major changes. These changes are shown in the dependence on alternative sources of energy and the efforts aiming at supporting the reduction of environmental pollution resulting from vehicle exhausts, in addition to the efforts taken to shift towards hybrid electric vehicles in hope of achieving better environmental effects using modern means of transport.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Kasabi noted the qualitative shift witnessed by NMCC and its activities exerted to reach orderly institutional work. This work helps support all economic sectors with standards, measurements and accurate tests that enhance the accuracy of manufacturing products and improve the level of service. He also indicated that NMCC has succeeded during the past year in achieving many achievements, including the Wavelength Laboratory achievement of the international recognition for the national Saudi standard, which meets the definition of the basic meter unit. The result of the measured value exactly matched the measured value at NIST. In addition, NMCC achieved the candela unit, one of the seven international units, through the establishment of the Luminous Intensity Laboratory. Moreover, NMCC succeeded in completing most of the development work for the electromagnetic radiation, microwave, wavelength and thermal radiation laboratories. Besides, NMCC participated in international comparison programs in the fields of wavelength, mass, pressure and other internationally recognized units. 722 devices were calibrated in NMCC laboratories.
