SASO organized, in collaboration with DuPont Company, a workshop on protective clothing and equipment against hazards of electrical shock, at its headquarters in Riyadh. A number of experts and workers in protective clothing and equipment fields and workers in electricity field participated in the workshop.

The workshop included three work papers. The first work paper was introduced by Mr. Sa'ad Al-Hatem. He discussed SASO's vision, mission and infrastructure which focus on standards, laboratories, conformity assessment and calibration. The first work paper also covered the activities of the National Committee, the counterpart of the international Technical Committee ISO/TC 94; its standards; Saudi Arabia's membership in the international Technical Committee ISO/TC 94; challenges in this field; and the anticipated future for this field.

Regional Manager at DuPont S.A., Eng. Baligh Aba-Hussain, presented a work paper on the most recent strategies used in confronting international challenges in the field of hazards of electrical shock. These strategies depend on technological and engineering sciences as one of the mechanisms of development, environmental protection and consumer's safety and health maintenance.

Dr. Jean-Claude, a member of the international Technical Committee IEC/TC 78 concerning equipment and devices used in heavy-duty work, addressed pure technical methodologies concerning how to provide protection against the hazards of electrical shock. Additionally, he demonstrated the most recent technologies used in this field, whether protective equipment or protective clothing for body and face. Moreover, he reviewed the most important international standards related to the requirements of protective clothing and equipment besides related international standards' projects. Further, the work paper dealt with standards of protective clothing against fire and different hazards of electrical shock, occurring in work areas or relating to fire fighting.
