​The Kingdom participated in the 11th meeting of the General Assembly of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries(SMIIC), in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, with a delegation headed by His Excellency the Governor of SASO, Dr. Saad bin Othman Al Kasabi and the membership of a number of officials from SASO and Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA).

      SMIIC General Assembly discussed, at this meeting, a number of issues related to standardization and specifications in the Islamic countries to promote joint Islamic work. The closing of the budget for 2016 and the proposed budget for 2018 were also reviewed. The implementation of the main strategic activities of  SMIIC and the strategic plan implementation documents for the period 2016-2020, in addition to discussing the amendment of the statute of SMIIC.

     It is noted that Dr. Saad Al Kasabi serves as the Vice Chairman of SMIIC, thus strengthening the Kingdom's leading role in standardization activities in relevant regional and international organizations.

     It is noteworthy that SASO participates regularly in the meetings of Arab, regional and international organizations in which it has membership with, in order to keep abreast of the developments in the various fields of standardization, that will be reflected positively on the various activities of SASO.
