SASO Celebrates Gulf Consumer Protection Week in Three Awareness Events in Riyadh, Eastern Province and Jeddah
SASO launched the events of celebrating Gulf Consumer Protection Week, with three events in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Jeddah, through awareness pavilions at malls and markets to provide instructions that help consumers to identify the commodities conforming with the Saudi standard specifications.
Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman Al Kasabi, Governor of SASO, said that SASO is keen to gain benefit from such periodic events to promote the awareness of the consumer, as one of the most important supporting pillars to enhance competitiveness and support national economy, through more consolidation of trust in the products conforming with the Saudi standard specifications and technical regulations. In addition, SASO is keen to help the consumer raise his/her awareness of the importance of conforming products and the danger of poor quality and counterfeit products on safety and security rates in general.
Dr. Al Kasabi noted the pivotal role of standard specifications and technical regulations in raising the level of safety and security for consumer protection from risks of commodities and products of poor quality. He pointed out that SASO is currently working on the development of the Saudi Product Safety Program, which is one of the most important initiatives of the National Transformation Program 2020, in which SASO aims to increase the rate of products, conforming with the standards, in the market to a level of 20% higher than current.
It is noteworthy that Gulf Consumer Protection Week is an annual event aimed at unifying GCC efforts in order to expand the umbrella of consumer protection and reach joint cooperation. In addition, it aims to empower the consumer by providing him/her the knowledge and skills to become an aware consumer, realizing and exploiting his/her rights and responsibilities, as well as an effective participant in fighting for his/her consumption issues.
