The Kingdom Participates in Meetings of SMIIC Board of Directors  



     The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by SASO and Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), participated in the fourteenth meeting of the Board of Directors of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), which was held during the period 2-3/3/2017, in Istanbul, Turkey. Saudi delegation was headed by Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, Governor of SASO and Vice-Chairman of SMIIC, with the participation of a number of officials from SASO and SFDA.
 
     The meeting addressed a number of important issues related to standardization, accreditation and quality activities in member countries. Implementation of key strategic activities of SMIIC and documents of the strategic plan application, during the period between 2016 and 2020, was reviewed. In addition, amendment of SMIIC's Statute, with corresponding countries, was discussed. Furthermore, last year's budget was approved, and the new budget was adopted.
 
     SASO participates regularly in meetings of Arab, regional, and international organizations, in which SASO is a member, to keep up with developments in various fields of standardization, which is reflected positively on its various activities.
 
     Through these events, SASO works on establishing regional and international position of the Kingdom. It enhances the presence of the Kingdom in various gatherings related to standardization, testing and accreditation activities, as the Kingdom has recently become one of the most important leading countries in this field.
