SASO Organizes Workshop on Technical Regulation for Degradable Plastic Products in Makkah
SASO organized an introductory workshop on Technical Regulation for Degradable Plastic Products and its mandatory application, at Makkah Branch. The workshop included a number of working papers related to this vital issue.
The workshop started its activities with a comprehensive review of plastic products manufacturing and its impact on environment, through a working paper entitled "Environmental Effects of Plastic Products Manufacturing", presented by Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Al-Ghelan on behalf of Ms. Ghada AL-Kulaib, representative of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh. In addition, Eng. Mohammad Huraira presented a working paper on new methodology, followed by SASO to ensure product safety. The working paper also presented what the Technical Regulation for Degradable Plastic Products includes.
The workshop continued its activities with a third working paper, dealing with registration procedures for manufacturers and importers, in Certificates of Conformity Department at SASO, and mechanisms for obtaining the license to use Degradable Plastic Products' Logo, presented by Mr. Ali Al-Harbi. The workshop witnessed a panel discussion where concerned parties, from SASO, answered the audience's questions and queries.
It is noteworthy that SASO has only adopted, over the past year, approximately 10 mandatory technical regulations for a number of products. It is the first step in the executive steps for the comprehensive program initiative for product safety, adopted as one of SASO's initiatives in the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020.
