SASO Issues Guide for Under-Run Protective Devices in Trucks and Trailers
SASO has issued a detailed guide for rear, front and side under-run protective devices for trucks and trailers, in order to clarify the required technical specifications in detail, which clarifies for executing companies the mechanisms needed to achieve the requirements of the Saudi technical regulations, in a proper manner. The guide can be viewed through SASO's website: www.saso.gov.sa.
The issuance of the guide for under-run protective devices in trucks and trailers came within the recommendations of the workshop held by SASO last June, under the title " Saudi Technical Regulations for Truck and Trailer Under-Run Devices and Their Implementation Mechanism". The issuance of the guide aims to reduce the number of accidents, in which small vehicles go under trucks on the roads.
Therefore, SASO has issued several technical regulations that require all trucks and trailers to be equipped with rear, front and side under-run protective devices, in order to provide effective protection against the possibility of small vehicles going under trucks and trailers during accidents. This is due to the notable increase in accidents, during which small vehicles go under trucks and trailers, causing significant human and material losses.
Furthermore, Saudi Customs, in coordination with SASO, has forbidden the entrance of trucks and trailers entering or passing the Kingdom, in addition to imported cars, whether new or used, which do not comply with the standard specification "Under-Run Protective Devices", since 01/07/1437 AH, corresponding to 08/04/2016.
SASO has launched a media campaign to raise awareness of the importance of under-run protective devices in trucks and trailers, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Public Transport Authority, General Department of Traffic, Special Forces Roads Security and the Saudi Customs, to emphasize the need to adhere to the Saudi technical regulations regarding the installation of rear, front and side under-run protective devices for trucks, in order to reduce the number of accidents between trucks and small vehicles. The campaign will last for a month. Government bodies participating in the campaign aim to raise public awareness among owners and drivers about the importance of safety and security means, and the application of technical standards and regulations issued by SASO.
This campaign covers various regions in the Kingdom, and is launched in four languages: Arabic, English, Urdu and Bangla, in order to reach target groups. Government bodies participating in this campaign have expressed their hopes that the various activities and events being held, contribute to achieving the objectives of the campaign.
