SASO Organizes Workshops to Raise Awareness of Low Voltage Electrical Appliances Regulation in Preparation of Implementing it Mandatorily on the First of Coming July
SASO, in collaboration with GCC Standardization Organization, has organized, at its headquarters in Riyadh, the first workshop on "GSO Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances" and "GSO Technical Regulation on Children Toys" in the framework of the efforts exerted to introduce the regulations and raise the awareness of bodies concerned with their implementation.
For his part, SASO Deputy Governor for Quality and Conformity, Eng. Saud Al-Askar, stressed, during opening the workshop on Monday, Jumada al-Awwal 13th, 1237 AH, corresponding to February 22nd, 2016, that SASO does not hesitate to host such workshops, realizing the importance of joint action. He also confirmed that SASO will continue supporting and leading the implementation and development of the GCC work in order to achieve the expectations of our leaders and the vision of the Two Holy Mosques, Allah protect and support him, to enhance integration among the GCC states in various fields.
He added saying that holding such workshops and inviting different public, private, academic, and technical concerned bodies stem from SASO realization of the importance of communication with different concerned bodies and of raising necessary awareness of the requirements to adhere to in order to introduce products to Saudi market besides the mechanisms used to guarantee their conformity with standard specifications, considering the nearness to the mandatory implementation deadline for the regulation on July 1st, 2016.
The Deputy Governor has pointed out that the technological and intellectual advance in the field of manufacturing and marketing low voltage electrical appliances necessitates all concerned bodies determining mandatory requirements related to the safety of these appliances in addition to the requirements of electromagnetic compatibility required in all low voltage electrical appliances, whether produced locally or imported, before introducing them to the GCC common market. Determining such requirements facilitates for concerned bodies recognizing their duties and responsibilities in order to guarantee achieving the expected level of safety in what is sold to consumers.
It is fixed that the launch of the second workshop will be on Wednesday, Jumada al-Awwal 15th, 1437 AH, corresponding to February 24th, 2016, at SASO's branch in the Eastern Province. The events will be concluded with a workshop on Monday, Jumada al-Awwal 20th, 1437 AH, corresponding to February 29th, 2016, at SASO's branch in Makkah region.
Organizing such workshops stems from the framework of recommendations approved by the GCC Committee of Conformity Assessment in its meeting held in October 2015 in Riyadh and from the action of the member states, seeking to carry out awareness campaigns on the GSO Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances. The regulation aims at guaranteeing the safety and quality of goods entering member states' markets. It also contributes to enhancing the economic integration process; developing trade; supporting economy; and, at the same time, protecting consumers' health and safety in the GCC community and environment in which they live.
