The mutual technical collaboration agreement between SASO and British Standards Institution (BSI), with its articles, entered into effect. A group of experts from BSI has recently conducted a study to assess SASO and set suggestions to improve work at SASO and build its human resources in order to keep up with the qualitative leap SASO is witnessing to serve consumers and increase the strength of the Kingdom's economy.

SASO previously sent a team of its engineers and technicians to BSI in a visit lasting for a week to take a look at the British experience as it is considered one of the world's oldest experiences in the field of standardization and specifications. During this visit, the team examined the mechanisms of setting and developing standards. The team also paid an exploring visit to take a look at BSI laboratories' equipment and their working mechanisms, in addition to a number of activities related to standardization and specifications.

The agreement signed between SASO and BSI stated the necessity to exchange information in different standardization fields and activities, participate in studying, preparing, developing and adapting standards' drafts of both parties while taking into consideration recommendations and international standards, in addition to the participation in organizing symposia, scientific seminars and on-site visits. Moreover, the agreement aims at enabling SASO to borrow some British experts and technicians to work at it for long or short periods, providing help in re-organizing the knowledge center at SASO and training some of SASO's employees in Britain or Saudi Arabia in different standardization fields.

The agreement also included collaboration in the field of commercial fraud combat, in finding suitable means to limit fraud and in providing protection and safety for consumers. It also stressed the importance of implementing standards issued by the two countries. Additionally, it included collaboration in the field of inspection, calibration and measurement laboratories, in the field of conformity assessment's procedures and mutual recognition of those procedures, in providing consultations and in any other fields the two parties agree on.
