The Deputy Governor of SASO, Eng. Fawzi bin Hasan Hakeem, clarified that Saudi market will witness, Allah's willing, many developments during the coming period as a result of the huge improvement at the level of the implemented procedures and systems.

The deputy governor delivered a speech on behalf of His Excellency the governor of SASO on the occasion of opening a workshop on switchgears, which was organized by SASO in collaboration with the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) at SASO headquarters in Riyadh, lasting for two days. During his speech, he indicated that SASO issues Saudi standards and technical regulations and participates in the mutual control series with related bodies to ensure the implementation of these standards and to strictly control the Kingdom's markets, as the consumer is the main goal SASO targets in its work and contributes to his/her protection.

Eng. Hakeem identified that SASO has formed with Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Customs, and other bodies an integrated control series which has actually started to ensure the implementation of accredited Saudi standards, systems, and regulations, such as the Mutual Recognition Program of Conformity Certificates for  imported consignments, sampling random consignments of them, and then testing them in private laboratories or SASO's laboratories to ensure their conformity to related Saudi standards and technical regulations.

The deputy governor said, "We have issued more than 6000 standards in the field of electrical and electronic products, representing 22% of total standards. There are also 251 standard drafts under preparation. Additionally, we have transformed 31 standards, in this field, to Saudi mandatory regulations during the year of 2013." He added saying, "There is no doubt that switchgears' standards attract the attention of interests from the industrial sector, specialists in the field of standardization and standards, and contractors and engineers working in the electrical sector. Therefore, SASO has issued 10 Saudi standards in this field, realizing that switchgears are a strategic commodity that is connected with the safety of individuals and properties."

The workshop held aimed at exchanging expertise; raising the national staff's efficiency and qualifying them professionally through the direct contact with different international experts; reviewing safety standards, technical specifications, and the mechanism of issuing certificates for switchgears; providing participants with the latest trends in manufacturing switchgears; and evaluating and setting recommendations for the current and futuristic needs of the Kingdom in this field.
