The kingdom of Saudi Arabia participates in the meetings of The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) in New Zealand
SASO participated in the meetings of the Forty-ninth Session of the International Organization of Legal Metrology OIML. The meetings were held recently in Auckland, New Zealand with the participation of 127 experts in the field of legal metrology from 120 countries around the world. The Saudi delegation was headed by Eng. Fawzi Bin Hassan Hakim, Vice Governor for Standards and Quality.
The importance of such participations and the periodic presence of the Kingdom and its standardization bodies as this has a distinct effect on raising the quality and efficiency of the Saudi standards, and highlights the Kingdom's efforts in this regard to the world. Eng. Hakim pointed out that legal metrology is that part of metrology which deals with the technical and legal binding requirements, which ensures public protection in terms of safety and measurement accuracy, and provides for the professionals and the community regulations and ways for multiple control over the accuracy of standardization tools, in order to raise the consumer's confidence in the product he gets from markets. This will reflect in having a credible economic environment that is highly trusted and supports the competitive position of the Kingdom.
Deputy Governor of Standards at SASO stressed that legal metrology and standard specifications for measuring instruments is one of the most important activities and functions of standardization bodies locally and globally. As it has a direct impact on the consumer's confidence in measuring and weighting the product he wants. Moreover, he praised the results of the joint committees and their emphasis on the need to activate legal metrology practices and to work to keep up with the rapid developments and changes in the different countries of the world.
The International Organization of Legal Metrology OIML was established in 1955, and is based in Paris, France. It is an international organization that works to document and provide everything related to legal metrology . The kingdom has been a member in this Organization since 1990. SASO studies draft recommendations and votes on them, it also uses these recommendations as a main reference when preparing SASO's drafts.
