SASO Participates in the Events of World Civil Defense Day (WCDD)
SASO has participated in the events of World Civil Defense Day, as part of its vital role to raise awareness of the importance of standards as one of the most fundamental supports and main basics to raise the consumer's security and safety rates in all products traded in the Saudi market. That is done through the participation of SASO's branch in the eastern region at the exhibition accompanying the World Civil Defense Day. It was held under the patronage and honor of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, under the slogan (sustainable development without risk), during the period 11-14 Jumada I 1436 AH, corresponding to 2-5 March 2015.
SASO was keen through this exhibition to undertake its role in awareness to the community for the need to be interested in the standards of security and safety in products and commodities owned. In addition, that role is to warn of the risks of some products, such as low quality electrical power strips, with the clarification of what " conforming" or "non-conforming" product when buying.
The participation SASO in the celebration of the occasion came as SASO is an important partner with the civil defense, in which the Civil Defense Directorate participates continuously in the technical committees. The committees set up standards drafts for industry's safety and health through setting up the Saudi standards to ensure the health and safety of citizens and residents. In addition, they make sure of availability of safety requirements for equipment, vehicles, tires, electrical appliances and fire extinguishers. Furthermore, the directorate participates in the preparation of standards and technical regulations for amusement and entertainment parks, electrical elevators, as well as gas cylinders, and fire extinguishers. Also hazardous materials transportation means, children's playing products, as well as sockets and power strips.
SASO' corner in the accompanying exhibition has received a visit and praise by the Governor of the Eastern Province , and that after he was given a brief summary of the SASO's activities. He has taken a view to some non-conforming samples of a number of products such as power strips, sockets and others, subsequently he has commended the importance of standards and their role in consumer protection. In addition, he has stressed for the withdrawal of more samples from the markets to ensure compliance with the standards and catch offenders.
