Approving More Than 1,500 Saudi Standards
Minister of Commerce and Industry Chairs Standards' Board Meeting and Visits NMCC



        His Excellency Minister of Commerce and Industry and the Chairman of SASO's Board, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fouzan Al Rabiah, chaired the Board's meeting No. 150, with the participation of His Excellency the Governor of SASO, Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman AlKasabi and the members of the Board. Over 1500 Saudi standards in various fields have been approved by the Board. Also, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, accompanied by Board members, paid an inspection visit to the National Measurement and Calibration Center (NMCC) and the Time and Frequency Lab. His Excellency commended the Center and Lab's equipment and noted their vital role in adding Makkah's timing to the Coordinated Universal Time. 

      The governor of SASO said that the Board has approved about 200 Saudi standards, which included 34 standards for chemical and petroleum products, 30 standards for electronic and electrical products, 72 standards for mechanical and metallic products in addition to 62 standards for construction products and building materials, and 3 standards for textile and environment products. Dr. AlKasabi also noted that SASO's Board has approved about 1272 Gulf standard that covered many fields and products.  

        The Governor resumed by saying that the Board has reviewed the indicators of achievement in achieving SASO'S strategic objectives, and the study of mechanisms used for developing the activities of the Saudi Accreditation Committee, in addition to studying the regulation and work mechanism for the Research and Studies Center at SASO. 

        Furthermore, he said that Saudi standard specifications have now reached over 28.700 standards. The most prominent of which during the last period were the Saudi standard of economic consumption of motor fuels and the technical regulation of vehicle tires rolling resistance and wet grip requirements. Also, air conditioners' standards were updated and the new form of the energy efficiency label for refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners was approved in addition to updating standards for about 10 thermal insulation products for buildings, as a part of the joint cooperation and coordination with the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center. 

       ​Dr. Sa'ad concluded his speech by encouraging the employees of SASO to make more efforts to fulfill the trust of their religion,  country, governors and community. He also stressed that  SASO will spare no effort to provide a solider system to counter fraud and manipulation in products and goods, and will activate the monitoring process in cooperation with concerned bodies.
