SASO Hosts IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres (IECEx System)
SASO has hosted, on Tuesday, 12 Jumada I 1436 AH corresponding to 3 March 2015, the activities of the IEC system for certification to standards relating to equipment for use in explosive atmospheres (IECEx System) which was organized by GCC Standardization Organization (GSO). It was held at SASO's headquarter in Riyadh . In addition, a group of specialized international experts in this field have participated , among them was Dr. Thorsten Arnhold, Chairman of IECEx, and Mr. Chris Agius, IECEx Executive Secretary.
IECEx system has viewed what the International Certification System is, the products that are subject to such certificate, providing a detailed explanation of IECEx International Certification System and all sub-certificates of conformity. International experts pointed out that the industries that fall within the scope of the international standard specifications issued by (IEC) relating to equipment for use in explosive atmospheres (IECEx System) are; oil and gas refineries, off-shore platform rigs and processing plants. In addition to, refueling stations, chemical processing plants, Coal mining, printing, paper and textiles industries, aviation aprons, refueling, gas pipelines and distribution centers, grain handling and storage, woodworking areas, sugar refineries, metal surface grinding plants especially aluminum ,surface coating industries, waste treatment, and sewerage plants.
IECEx International Certification System provides independent verification of compliance with the International IEC Standardization system, dedicated to use of equipment in areas where flammable or combustible materials are found, e.g. oil and gas industries. It is the sole Scheme formally endorsed by the United Nations, via the UNECE.
