"SASO" Commits Quality Management Systems Certification Bodies to Obtain Saudi Accreditation Committee Approval
The Board of Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) accredited 67 technical regulations and Saudi standards for a number of products. The Board also approved the adoption of 171 GSO standards, during its recent meeting, which is considered the 152nd meeting for SASO's Board, held at SASO's main headquarter in Riyadh.
The Governor of SASO, Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman AlKasabi, confirmed the continuous pursuit of SASO to cope with the economic circumstances in the Kingdom in order to promote consumer safety and support the national economy by providing potentials that contribute to the development of the competitive capability of national products. He indicates that during the past years, SASO has started organizing the priorities of issuing standards in accordance with the strategic initiatives of development plans.
The governor clarifies that SASO's Board reviewed the quarterly performance indicators report for SASO's strategic plan, accredited about 67 Saudi standards and technical regulations and approved the adoption of 171 GSO standards, including petroleum and chemical products, electrical and electronic goods, mechanical and metal products, construction products and building materials, textile products , environmental products in addition to measurement and scale products and information technology.
Also, the Board approved the implementing regulation of measurement and calibration system and accredited the technical regulation of energy efficiency requirements for lighting products and the technical regulation of the procedures of data registration and energy efficiency label issuance for vehicles and tires.
Dr. AlKasabi said, " Considering the necessity of organizing the market of quality management systems certification bodies in the Kingdom, the Board has decided to commit quality management systems certification bodies in the Saudi market to obtain the approval of the Saudi Accreditation Committee, according to the international standard ISO/IEC 17021, and to give these bodies a transitional period of one year to complete procedures of obtaining the required accreditation."
Dr. Sa'ad AlKasabi concludes his talk by encouraging SASO's employees to exert more efforts to perform the responsibility that rests on their shoulders towards their religion, country, rulers and society. He affirmed that SASO will continue its rapid steps in providing solider system to encounter nonconforming products and goods by activating the control side, in cooperation with related sectors.
