SASO: Quality Mark to be Mandatory on Ceramic Products as of September 13

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has announced the start of binding ceramic products, including porcelain, to obtain the Saudi Quality Mark, as of  Muharram 14th, 1441 AH, corresponding to September 13th, 2019. SASO confirmed that the entry of ceramic products from Saudi ports, or selling them on market, after this date is prohibited unless holding the Mark.

SASO invited all importers and manufacturers of these products to obtain the Saudi Quality Mark by applying on the electronic certification system at SASO: https://jeem1.saso.gov.sa/.

It is noteworthy that SASO's Board of Directors has already agreed to raise the level of conformity assessment procedure on ceramic products to the fifth level (Type 5). It is represented in binding to the Quality Mark, according to the details announced in the Technical Regulation of Building Materials No. (M.A. 161-17-07-03).

This step confirms the keenness of SASO and relevant regulatory bodies to improve the quality of commodities and products offered in the Saudi market and to promote the health and safety of the consumer. This is achieved by licensing institutions that meet the requirements of the General Technical Regulation of the Saudi Quality Mark to use the Mark on their products. SASO clarified that holding the Quality Mark on a product reflects its conformity to adopted Saudi standards, in addition to achieving the standards of quality control during manufacturing. Thus, the system of granting the Quality Mark meets the interest of all parties involved (i.e., producer, consumer and trader), enhances consumer protection, and provides greater competitiveness for products obtaining the Mark.
