SASO Holds Online Workshop to Discuss Standards’ Drafts before Board of Directors’ Approval

      SASO organized an online workshop to introduce the procedures for issuing Saudi standards, and to review proposed standards drafts for approval at the Board of Directors meeting No. 174, attended by a number of specialists from governmental, private and academic sectors.

      In his opening speech, Deputy Governor of Standards and Laboratories, Mr. Tamis bin Ali Al Hammadi, said that this workshop reflects SASO's keenness to embody effective partnership mechanisms with all parties, and give all stakeholders the opportunity to express their comments on Saudi standards drafts and discuss them in a constructive and objective manner to achieve the desired balance that leads to the representation of those standards for different national needs.

      Al Hammadi pointed out that the global challenges have produced multiple effects in various sectors, which requires the relevant national bodies to make more efforts to move forward in maximizing effective participation among them and the rest of the components of the national economy development in order to support economy and national development and to serve citizens and residents in our giving kingdom.

      Noting that SASO issued more than 30,000 Saudi standards for a large number of products and services, and so far formed 42 technical teams in various technical sectors concerned with studying standards and with participation of members representing multiple sides and various sectors to participate in developing, studying and updating Saudi standards, as well as studying drafts of international standards. Al Hammadi noted that the Kingdom is an active member and participant in many technical committees of international organizations such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).

      ​Al Hammadi expressed the aspiration of SASO to continue cooperation with various partners, confirming its endeavor to be a fruitful cooperation leading to a qualitative shift in developing Saudi standards, contributing to advance the economic development in the Kingdom, and enhancing consumer protection and preserving safety.
