SASO Begins Calibrating Fuel Pumps as of November 1st

As of November 1st, 2018, SASO carries out its responsibilities for the calibration of fuel pumps, after agreeing on the transfer of these responsibilities recently from the Ministry of Commerce and Investment (MCI) to SASO.

SASO has explained that this procedure follows the recent launch of the National Metrology and Calibration Program " TAQYEES", update,  and publication of the implementing regulation for Metrology and Calibration System, which includes the requirements of manufacture, import, and use of measurement equipment for commercial operations such as fuel pumps, scales, domestic meters, etc.

SASO has revealed that the implementation of the updated regulations will be in three stages. The first stage will start in Riyadh on 01/11/2018, while the second stage will cover the cities of Jeddah and Dammam starting from 01/01/2019. The implementation of the rest of the Kingdom's provinces will start on 01/04 / 2019.

Furthermore, SASO has clarified that "TAQYEES" program is one of its initiatives within the National Transformation Program 2020. SASO has called all manufacturers, importers, operators, and maintenance centers- concerned with measurement equipment- to implement the requirements of the regulations of measurement and calibration and their technical attachments.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Commerce and Investment (MCI) had launched the system of testing and calibration of electronic fuel pumps in mid-1439 AH, to raise the control role on fuel stations and raise the level of transparency in the service provided to the final consumer, and the elimination of fraud.
